The lies we are told

I was recently endlessly scrolling through my LinkedIn feed(nerds don’t use Insta) when I came across this.

“What the fuck??”, this was my first reaction.

If you follow some startup news and are active on LinkedIn in the computer engineering community, you know this well by now. This is a startup idea by a guy from DTU, now DCE, and aims at bringing together people from FAANG companies so they can marry each other because they “deserve” no less. What the fuck is wrong with our society? Now we are going to match people based on their job and their companies also. And what the hell do they mean to say by “deserve”? Like someone from faang doesn’t deserve someone, not from faang? People not from faang are like the untouchables for people from faang? I shut down my laptop and went for a walk to cool off my mind by looking at this shit. Like what the fuck, since when have we started to judge people this much? Do we like it when others judge us so critically before making a decision about some sort of relationship? No, we don’t. Because we feel entitled. But we treat others that way.

In how many ways can we actually divide society into parts? Is there a limit to it? How many ways can we find to judge people and decide their level in society in our subconscious mind?

That guy should have a government job only then he is considered an eligible bachelor for our girl. That girl should be from FAANG only then our boy is gonna marry her. How does that sound? Welcome to the internet, the place of fools and idiots.

When I came back from the walk, I started Linkedin again only to find out that this startup has also been acquired by Scaler Academy even before its full-fledged launch. Wow! It’s literally all over the news. It further fumed my anger. But then, there was that. That comment. That only comment that put it all together. There was this guy who posted something like this in the comment box,

“Tech products are only a reflection of how the society works!”.

Let that sink in.

This is how society actually works. Have you ever seen a successful IAS officer marrying a girl who is not fair in color? Have you ever picked up the matrimonial section of the newspaper?

Looking for a fair girl, good-looking, tall girl for an NRI Agarwal boy well settled in Delhi.

Looking for an eligible bachelor, well settled, good income, own house for our beautiful Marwari girl.

Remember the time in our childhood, we were told that everyone is the same, we should treat everyone equally, respect girls, respect elders, we are all made the same by god. Well, fuck that. I guess a lot of men when they come into this phase understand the true nature of the world.

“Degree nahi hogi toh naukri nahi hogi, naukri nahi hogi toh koi baap apni beti nahi dega, bank credit card nahi degi, aur duniya respect nahi degi”

It dawned on me and I guess on you also by now, that there is actually nothing wrong with that product, it is just a reflection of how society has been actually working for over centuries now. You think you are different, don’t give me that shit unless you are ready to date a girl black in color, or a guy who has is not an achiever or rich. We are all part of the same society.

Shame on us. Change my mind.
